Seamless Affinities

Seamless Affinities is a virtual reality experience — a traversal of the structures and mechanisms that operate when individuals face the challenge of the unknown. It provides a visual description of an inner architecture defined by patterns as functional models built on repetition. As individuals encounter situations outside the realm of previous experience, certain responses may be translated into new identities. One must either accept the experience of the unknown or persist in a recurrent behavioral pattern that pursues familiarity.

The work is cyclic, beginning and ending in the same virtual spaces viewed from different perspectives. The visitor decides whether to experience the second part of the work while journeying through an environment that juxtaposes recognizable objects and abstract elements, producing an atmosphere that is both common and obscure.

Seamless Affinities displays virtual reality — and technology, in an expansive view — as a tool for modeling new social configurations. The virtual is anchored in current knowledge but also enables the exploration of social and cultural alternatives, changing perceptions and shaping future social practices by shifting the focus on what could be different.
